Enolase, Non Neuronal (NNE)
other names:ENO1; ENO1L1; MBP-1; MPB1; PPH; Alpha Enolase.
Enolase 1, more commonly known asα-enolase, is a glycolytic enzyme expressed in most tissues, one of the isozymes of enolase. It is a homodimer composed of 2 alpha subunits. Its gene, the ENO1, also encodes the Myc-binding protein-1(MBP1), which downregulates the activity of c-myc protooncogene. Alpha-enolase is the longer form (48 kDa) localized in both cytoplasm and nuclei, while MBP1 is shorter (37 kDa) and is found mostly in the nuclei.Alpha-enolase has been identified as an autoantigen in Hashimotos encephalopathy. Single studies have also identified it as an autoantigen associated with severe asthma and a putative target antigen of anti-endothelial cell antibody in Behçets disease.Reduced expression of the enzyme has been found in the corneas of people suffering from keratoconus.
