Heat Shock 10kDa Protein 1 (HSP10)
other names:HSPE1; CPN10; EPF; GROES; Chaperonin 10; Early Pregnancy Factor
Heat shock 10kDa protein 1 (chaperonin 10), also known as HSPE1 or GroES, is a chaperonin which usually works in conjunction with GroEL. In eukaryotes, it is very similar to Heat Shock Protein 10 or Hsp10.
Chaperonins are ubiquitous, indispensable proteins that facilitate protein folding in an ATP-dependent manner (Todd et al., 1994), enhancing the yield of properly folded substrate protein under conditions where spontaneous folding does not occur. Chaperonins are typified by the E. coli heat-shock proteins GroEL (cpn60) and GroES (cpn10).
GroES is a heptameric ring of identical 10.4-kD subunits that binds to each end of GroEL to form a symmetric, functional heterodimer.
